A 1-2 year research assistant position (20%) is available in the Competence Centre for Mental Health at the OST – Ostschweizer Fachhochschule in St. Gallen (Director: Prof. Dr. Manuel Stadtmann).

 

Competence Centre for Mental Health:

At the Competence Centre for Mental Health, our interdisciplinary team focuses on research, training, and education within the following topics: (1) Determinants and factors influencing mental health, (2) Interprofessional health services research, (3) Stigmatisation in society, (4) Mental health of vulnerable populations, (5) Mental health of family members, and (6) Dissemination and implementation of research into practice.

Your tasks:

Over the course of the 1-2 year position, your tasks as a research assistant will vary depending on the specific field experience and project you are working on. However, here are some common tasks typically performed:

 

  1. Literature Review: The research assistant will assist in conducting literature reviews to gather relevant information and studies related to the research topic. This involves searching databases, reading academic papers, summarizing key findings, and identifying knowledge gaps.
  2. Data Collection: The research assistant may be responsible for collecting data, which can involve conducting interviews, administering surveys, or observing and recording data. This task requires attention to detail, organization, and adherence to research protocols.
  3. Data Entry and Management: The research assistant will be responsible for data entry and management tasks. This includes organizing and inputting collected data into databases or a software, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining data confidentiality and security.
  4. Data Analysis: Depending on the skillset and the project requirements, the research assistant may assist in data analysis tasks. This can involve using statistical software to analyze data, running descriptive statistics, conducting inferential analyses, and interpreting the results, as well as in qualitative analysis such as Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and Grounded Theory (GT).
  5. Research Design and Methodology: The research assistant will contribute to the development of future research designs and methodologies. They can assist in designing research protocols, selecting appropriate data collection methods, and ensuring ethical considerations are met.
  6. Literature Summaries and Reports: The research assistant will be involved in writing literature summaries, research reports, or sections of academic papers. This task requires synthesizing information, organizing findings, and effectively communicating research results.
  7. Project Coordination and Support: This can involve scheduling meetings, coordinating participant recruitment, organizing materials, and assisting in the logistics of research activities.
  8. Communication and Collaboration: The research assistant will collaborate with other team members, such as researchers, professors, or fellow assistants. They will participate in research team meetings, contribute to discussions, and provide updates on their progress.
  9. Literature Citation and Referencing: The research assistant will help with formatting and organizing references using citation management software, ensuring that proper citation styles are followed.
  10. Presentation and Dissemination: The research assistant will assist in preparing presentations, posters, or other materials for conferences, research seminars, or public events.

 

These tasks may vary depending on the level of responsibility and the specific research project. As a research assistant, you will work closely with the research team and play a vital role in supporting the research process and contributing to the overall success of the projects.

 

Requirements: Very good level of (Swiss) German, and a good level of English.
